YOKOTO
in a little town far, far from home...
LOCATIONS
Set in the small town of Yokoto, this game primarily focuses on the bath house and the town. More locations may become available as time passes! Spirit AU characters may come and go as they'd like, and we're playing pretty fast and loose with the setting and most NPCs. Feel free to make up whatever you'd like without mod approval, but anything related to the Witch should be run by us first! If your spirit AU character wants to have a home elsewhere and vacation here in Yokoto, that is perfectly acceptable, for instance. OU characters brought in as "humans" will be expected to remain within the bath house and town.

THE BATH HOUSE
The main reason anyone visits Yokoto is the bath house. Sitting large and proud between the train tracks and river, looming over the entire town, the bath house is the livelihood of Yokoto. It serves as both an inn for traveling spirits as well as a place of relaxation and entertainment.

Starting from the bottom, the boiler room is home to spirits working with the fires and preparing the baths. Not very many spirits end up working in this department, and humans are rarely granted the opportunity to move here. The work is difficult, but you do get to hang around with the soot sprites, so there's that. The countless shelves full of ingredients for the baths are always well-stocked, and the back rooms that serve as a living quarters are slightly nicer than the communal bedrooms of the bath house workers. Working here is considered a step above the usual workers.

The baths are the ground floor level and connect to the boiler room to obtain the water for said baths. There are numerous tubs of varying sizes, all to be maintained by the lowest rank of the low, the grunt bath house worker. All "humans" start at this level. The ones that oversee these workers are known as Foremen, and they are one of the highest ranks... and are usually busy bossing everyone else around. Though the work is difficult and physically taxing, at least the Witch seems to be a fair boss?

The kitchens are on the ground floor as well, in the back of the bath house. These massive, state-of-the-art industrial kitchens are made to prepare a lot of food for a lot of guests, in all sorts of styles. You might even occasionally find them preparing a dish from your home, somehow! The ingredients are always well-stocked... but maybe don't question where they're all coming from. Working here is a step above the bath house workers; essentially it's a side-grade to working in the boiler room.

The entertainment floors and inn rooms are above this, spanning numerous floors up toward the top of the bath house. These range in size and style from rather plain dormitory-style rooms to lavish and ornate single bedrooms for guests booking the nicest the bath house has to offer. As for the entertainment, you'll find everything from musical instruments and rooms with great acoustics to rooms stocked with art supplies... though some guests prefer their entertainment a little more private and physical. Engaging with this is entirely optional. Working here is the highest position available (that isn't in management) regardless of what exactly you're doing, though you may get roped into being a particularly rich guest's guide around the bath house and personal servant for their stay...

Finally, the top floor belongs to the Witch. This mysterious woman rarely allows anyone to visit, so no one really knows what the topmost floor is like or what she has up there. You did sign your contract up here, so you might remember her ornate office... or you might not. Regardless, even the managers in each division do not report to her in these floors.
YOKOTO
An idyllic, bustling town built up around the bath house, Yokoto has plenty to see that isn't the bath house... though most spirits would be surprised to learn that. Why bother with anything else when the main attraction is right there, literally casting a shadow on the rest of the town?

Surrounding the town to the south is the river. It doesn't seem to have a name, simply being called just that - "the river". Rains often cause it to swell to almost unbelievable proportions, where it will become almost more like a sea. This river cuts Yokoto off from the mainland, which is supposedly where most spirits reside. Unfortunately, getting access to a boat on this side is impossible, as the stall for tickets is always empty...

The railroad runs along to the west, heading out north and south into the distance. There is only one stop in Yokoto, which is where some guests arrive from or leave to. Like with the river, the train doesn't have anyone manning the stand for tickets, so taking the train is impossible at present. Sometimes the river floods, yet the train still cuts through the water with ease.

There's also the barrier, a magical wall that protects Yokoto from the outside. You can freely walk through it - it only protects from monsters, so both spirits and "humans" can walk through it. Though the barrier is supposed to keep monsters away, it isn't always at full strength, or even very successful in that. Those skilled with magic might be well-suited to helping maintain the barrier.
THE TOWN
Of course, Yokoto is a town hosting a good number of houses and spirits living and working here. Though fairly crammed, the residential district has space enough for anyone who would like to move in - though "humans" may want to watch out for particularly fussy or annoying neighbors. These houses are all small, with a tiny kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. If you want luxury, you'll have to look elsewhere.

Yokoto is surrounded by farmland, which means the farms are a great source of work for spirits. These farms also involve livestock, so you have your pick of what sort of job you'd like to do here. Almost all ingredients used in the baths, kitchens, and the food stalls here in Yokoto are locally-sourced and very fresh!

The blacksmith is exceptionally popular for spirits looking to quell the threat of monsters. The spirits that work here are skilled at forging any sort of medieval fantasy weapon you can think of, though all of them are non-magical. You need armor too? That'll be extra. They deal only in gold, so better make sure you're saving up!

The alchemist is a cozy little hole-in-the-wall shop that is run by a single spirit. She deals in monster parts rather than gold, and will exchange any you bring her for one of her potions. What do these potions do? Sky's the limit! Most potion effects are not permanent, instead wearing off in a day or so at most. But if you want a permanent potion, that's on the table too! Her little shop is full of knick-knacks, monster bits and bobs, and way, way, way too many books to feasibly cram in here, but she'll keep collecting more anyway. The alchemist will also enchant your weapons for you... but it'll probably take a week and several reminders. Oh, and gold or monster parts.

The guard barracks are where the trained guards of Yokoto are stationed and where they make their headquarters on the northeastern side of town. They patrol Yokoto and the barrier, primarily serving to settle disputes, escort unruly guests from the bath house, or fight any monsters that stray too close. Those skilled with physical weapons are often preferred, but mages are welcome to join the ranks as well. Though the training is strict and the guards are under the Witch's thumb, they are paid the most out of everyone in her employ.
THE STALLS
Once night falls and the bath house opens for business, Yokoto truly comes alive. Carnival-like in nature, the stalls are manned by various spirits attempting to earn gold from any visitors willing to pay for street food, games, or various other services such as fortune telling. These stalls can be anything and they will surely attract some attention - so yes, you could even make a business running a kissing booth if you want to smooch spirits!

Though carnival-like in nature when it comes to the stalls and food, there are no rides or anything of the sort here in Yokoto... There isn't really the space for it. Instead, the people focus on livening up the place with various games and decorations - it's quite popular among visiting spirits to release lanterns or leave their mark on the town by way of decorations they created while here. But of course someone needs to help maintain these decorations... There's plenty of work to be done throughout the night market in Yokoto, and any spirits are welcome to run their own stalls or pitch in to help the others. You'll be paid fairly in gold, of course.
